Code Electric is an electrical contracting company which is launching a solar systems business to serve the growing Arizona solar electric market. "Code Electric's decision to locate to Tempe strengthens Arizona's leadership in the knowledge-based economy," said Gilbert Jimenez, Director of the Arizona Department of Commerce. "Arizona has the potential to be a global leader in harnessing the sun. Corporate decisions to relocate here are proving sound business choices for companies working in renewable energy." "We are delighted that Code Electric selected Tempe," said Dan Henderson, Economic Development Specialist, City of Tempe. "Entrepreneurs developing renewable energy sources create value added jobs and hold great promise for breakthroughs that result in substantial growth locally." Mark Holohan, President of Code Electric said, "In choosing our location, I considered Tempe's distinction in supporting higher education for the construction industry and solar technology, as well as its excellent freeway access and proximity to our major customers. It is a natural choice for our location." "Mayor Hallman and city council have done an incredible job of positioning the City of Tempe as an innovative, entrepreneurial community," said Barry Broome, President and CEO of the Greater Phoenix Economic Council. "Tempe exemplifies the kind of quality of life environment that technology-based companies like Code Electric seek for its employees, and GPEC is pleased to welcome this company to the community." Code Electric's construction work spans water treatment plants, power plants, manufacturing plants, retail facilities, semiconductor facilities, healthcare, military facilities and offices. Leading organizations such as Boeing, General Electric and Proctor and Gamble have trusted Code Electric to provide substantial electrical work on an ongoing basis for over a decade each. Holohan has participated in over 100 energy projects ranging from homes to a one-megawatt installation. As Arizona's solar market grows, Code Electric is working in conjunction with partners to offer a variety of applications and financing for solar systems on flat roofs, pitched roofs, shade structures and unused land. Code Electric will make $600,000 in capital investment over the next five years. Up to $12 million in rebates will flow from the states utilities this year to customer sited solar projects (residential and commercial). This money will leverage more than $25 million in solar projects on the customer side of the meter. The market for solar will continue to grow and could more than double with changes being considered to the states environmental portfolio standard.
